Orienteering 2007

Orienteering 2007

Old Fort Parker

Groesbeck, Texas

The weather, facilities, food and company were once again wonderful at the Orienteering event in Old Fort Parker. Our hosts work very hard to make sure everyone is well taken care of.

A wonderful driving and riding course was once again prepared by Novalene Thurston,  with interesting and challenging scavenger items and equestrian questions.

The morning began with a wonderful pancake breakfast prepared by Jimmy Sessum, Larry Jander, and David Sessum. After saddling and harnessing the teams set off to begin their adventure and returned after a great trip to a wonderful pot luck dinner.   The barbeque was delicious.  The homemade cake and peach cobbler prepared by David was a hit.  Paula Jander’s cheesecake must have been delicious, because after returning from the ride the only thing left was a shinny empty pan.  It is always great to sit and enjoy the company of friends, new and old, while eating great tasting food and sharing the events of the day.

Once the times were calculated, the questions were answered and the scavenger items were identified, the winners were announced and ribbons and awards were presented.

All breeds were well represented.  We had quarter horses, paint horses, standard bred horses, mules, large standard donkeys, thoroughbreds, miniature donkeys, and Tennessee walking horses.

Many of the competitors and volunteers stayed for another night and were able to sit under the beautiful oak trees and enjoy a special treat provided by Jimmy and prepared by David.  Every one eagerly consumed the delicious homemade ice cream and peach cobbler later that evening.  With everyone’s stomach full and tired from a full day of fun it was time to retire for a great nights sleep.

Congratulations winners!
